Councillor Sushila Abraham elected as Mayor of Kingston
Two more Malayalees elected as Councillors
Councillor Sushila Abraham has been elected as the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames at a socially distanced ceremony outside the town’s Guildhall on 18th May 2021.
Mayor Abraham will focus on mental health and wellbeing as her key themes for the year. She has chosen two local charities to champion as her special causes during her time in office – Anstee Bridge and Milaap Multicultural Day Centre.
Mayor Abraham is a solicitor who has had her own practice on Ewell Road in Surbiton since 1999. She lives in Surbiton with her husband Dr Mathew Abraham, who is a barrister. They have one son Matthew, also a barrister, daughter in law Taleetha and granddaughter Amelia.

Two more Malayalees elected as Councillors

                     Cllr Aji Peter

The UK Malayalee community has gained two more councillors following local council elections held on 4th May 2021.
Sajish Tom (Lab) and Aji Peter (Con) have been elected as councillors, both at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in Hampshire.
Councillor Sajish Tom, who hails from Vaikom in Kerala is also the Public relations officer of the Union of UK Malayalee Association (UUKMA).
Councillor Aji Peter, who hails from Kottayam is a Chief Environmental Scientist at Brunel University.
