The Indian Orthodox community in the UK has formed a new congregation in Southampton on 1st January 2022.
The Diocesan Metropolitan Dr Mathews Mar Thimothios has approved the request by the local Indian Orthodox community and has given his blessings to start a congregation. The congregation will be known as Mar Baselios Gregorios Indian Orthodox Congregation.
The new congregation will serve the Orthodox community members residing at Eastleigh, Salisbury, Andover, Basingstoke etc.
Rev. Fr. Anoop Abraham is the Vicar and will be in charge of the congregation. Fr Abraham read the order by the Diocese Metropolitan to form the congregation and conducted the first service, commemorating its patron Baselios Gregorios, on 1st January 2022.
The Congregation elected Mr Cinesh Thomas Babu (Mob: 07903 094545) as the Secretary and Mr Sunil Chacko (Mob: 07710 618432) as Trustee.
The Diocese of UK-Europe and Africa is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church, which has its universal headquarters and central secretariat at the Catholicate Palace (Devalokam), located in the ancient city of Kottayam in Kerala.
