The Royston Town Council has elected Councillor Mary Antony as the Town Mayor. Royston is in the county of Hertfordshire and about 10 miles from the city of Cambridge.
Mary Antony, who was elected to the Council for the first time earlier this month, will serve as the Town Mayor for 2022/23.
Mary is a member of the Royston Town Party, an independent local residents group. Mary was unanimously elected by all present council members from all political parties.
The local news website Royston Crow called it a historic day for Royston as Royston Town Party Councillor Mary Antony was elected the town’s first Asian mayor.
In her first speech as Mayor at the Town Council, Cllr Antony said ” I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust that Royston Town Party and other councillors placed in me.”
” I stand before you with great confidence, which comes from the trust and openness of the people of Royston. Together we can make difference in Royston.” she added.
